Mourning the Loss of Miss Mary Lou Wefers

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Miss Mary Lou Wefers, who dedicated over 40 years of her life to Saint Christopher Academy as a teacher and administrator. After a courageous battle with cancer, she passed away on the evening of October 16, leaving a legacy that will forever be a part of who we are as a school community.

For four decades, Mary Lou gave her time, her talents, her wisdom, and most importantly, her heart to the children of Saint Christopher. She saw her students as not simply who they were at the moment in her classroom, but for who they could become beyond the walls of Saint Chris.

To her fellow teachers, she was a mentor and a friend. She was a trusted colleague who was always willing to share her wisdom...and many great stories!

An avid Facebook fan, Mary Lou kept close contact with many of our graduates and their families, communicating often with her over 790 Facebook friends. Thanks to her many connections, she was a key Advancement volunteer, helping track down "missing" alumni and providing family updates.

Some people leave an impression on a school, and others become part of its very heart. Mary Lou was one of those extraordinary people.

On behalf of the Saint Christopher Academy community, we extend our heartfelt prayers and deepest condolences to her family and loved ones. May they feel surrounded by the love and gratitude of the many people whose lives she touched.

Mary Lou's funeral will take place on Monday, October 26 at 10:00 AM at St. Christopher Church. Viewing hours have not yet been determined, but we will share those as soon as possible.

To honor her remarkable life and legacy, Saint Christopher Academy has established the Mary Lou Wefers Memorial Fund to benefit the students and staff of the school she loved so dearly. Should you wish to donate in her memory, you may do so online at https://givebutter.com/mary-lou-wefers-memorial-fund-3ee3um.

"Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen."
