Dear Parents,
It was so great to “see” your students today! I can tell that they are ready and excited for school.
This was a general overview of how at home learning works. We discussed things such as:
- The teachers will start the online sessions at 8:40 AM
- Attendance is taken at 8:50 AM
- “Invitations” to each of their classes will be sent out between today and Monday. The students will need to “accept” the invitation to each class.
- Their weekly schedule will be posted on the announcement section of their google classroom along with their zoom or google meet information between today and Monday.
- The students have been given new gmail addresses, and it is important that they use this new gmail address.
- The at home students will be using “hand signals” to communicate with the teacher when they have a question, etc.
- They are required to be “online” at the same time that the “in class students” are learning the lessons. This is different from the remote learning we did in the spring, where a student could do lessons at any time. This is LIVE instruction where they will have the same opportunities as students who are physically in the school building to learn and ask questions.
You have also received, in a separate email last week, the general guidelines for at home learning.
Please see the video HERE that shows how to create a gmail account for your student, using the gmail id and password that was provided when you picked up their books. After they have successfully logged in, they will need to accept invitations from each of their teachers.
A couple of tech notes:
- Please be sure that your child is familiar with how to mute and unmute, and is able to work in a quiet environment.
- If your student is using a Mac pc, they will need to use Chrome as their primary browser (not Safari).
- If your student is using an ipad, they will need to download these apps: Chrome, classroom, docs, slides, drive, sheets, and gmail. Ipads are not ideal for the older grades - unless there is an external keyboard.
Please know that I am available to help your child if he/she struggles with any of the technical issues related to at home learning - I’m just an email away! I will host another zoom session next Thursday at 1:30 PM for any followup questions and/or suggestions you may have.
